Step 1: Sit Properly
- Start by sitting upright in a comfortable chair with your feet flat on the floor and knees at a 90-degree angle.
- Your back should be straight, with your shoulders relaxed and pulled back.
- Avoid slouching or leaning forward.
Step 2: Align Your Spine
- Ensure your lower back has natural curvature (the slight inward curve at the lumbar spine).
- Place a small cushion or lumbar support at the lower back if necessary for added support.
- Your head should be aligned with your spine, not jutting forward or tilting backward.
Step 3: Adjust Your Chair
- Chair Height: Adjust the height so your thighs are parallel to the floor and your feet are resting flat.
- Seat Depth: Your seat should allow you to sit with your back against the backrest while leaving about 2-3 inches between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees.
- Backrest Angle: Set the angle of the backrest to between 90° and 110° to support the natural curve of your back. It should provide firm support.
Step 4: Position Your Shoulders
- Relax your shoulders and roll them back. They should not be hunched or tense.
- Imagine drawing your shoulder blades together gently to keep your upper back aligned.
Step 5: Adjust Your Computer Screen/Desk
- Screen Height: Position your monitor at eye level. The top of the screen should be roughly at or slightly below eye height so you don’t strain your neck to look up or down.
- Keyboard and Mouse: Place your keyboard and mouse so that your arms are at a 90-degree angle, and your wrists remain straight. Your elbows should stay close to your body.
Step 6: Take Breaks and Move
- Make sure to get up and stretch every 30–60 minutes to avoid stiffness and muscle fatigue.
- Stand, stretch, or walk around to keep your muscles engaged and relieve pressure on your spine.
Step 7: Strengthen Core Muscles
- Incorporate exercises that strengthen your core muscles, such as planks, bridges, and back extensions, as a strong core supports better posture.
